Who We Are

The Organization

The Association of Minority Contractors of Lake County (AMCLC) is a nonprofit organization based in Waukegan, IL, committed to advancing equity in construction. We advocate for the fair distribution of private, public, and government contract opportunities across Lake County, the State of Illinois, and beyond—ensuring that “good-faith efforts” translate into real access for minority contractors.

Through our business incubation model, we support minority-owned companies at every stage—from start-up to established enterprises—by providing the tools, resources, and relationships they need to accelerate growth. In doing so, we not only strengthen businesses but also drive economic opportunity and prosperity within the minority community.

President's Story

Most of my childhood I desired to be an architect (not Art Vandelay). In high school, I took up architectural drafting whereas I competed in museum competitions. I fared well and won some awards. I wasn't great but I could hold my own. I loved being part of the development of construction, but my problem was, I couldn't sit down for long periods of time without falling asleep. I needed something more aggressive that would allow me to get out to the site, where the real action was.

I went away to college and majored Construction Management. In this field, I could enjoy the design and building of construction. I graduated from college with honors yet found it difficult to find a job. My first job was a QC inspector for a structural steel plant as I brought in a measly $9 dollars an hour. I earn money before attending college! I later went on to work for owner rep firms and small GC's. My highlight job was working for Walgreens managing new builds and remodels across all the southern states and Puerto Rico. I got a chance to travel throughout the U.S doing what I loved.

What stood out most on almost every construction site I visited. People that looked like me were the ones with the brooms and those who did not look like me were the ones that carried the blueprints.

In 2006, I started Integrity Developers, Inc. After eleven years of working for Walgreens, I finally mustarded up enough strength to call it quits. In the worst economy back in 2008, I left Walgreens and vowed to make a difference in my community on these minority disparities. I joined the NAACP, worked close with the Lake County Black Chamber, started the first Association of Minority for Lake County and the rest is history......

Today we are still fighting hard for the minority community.
